 THE TALE

I’d like to share the tale of the businessman and the sage…
A successful businessman believed he had it all. A luxurious comfortable home, the wealth to do what he wanted when he wanted and a family to share it with. 
But inside he felt doubt, frustration and insecurity. Something was missing. He felt anxious one day he would lose everything, his identity and therefore he would be powerless. 
A voice inside him echoed louder day after day.

“Go inwards to give outwards.”

On a routine trip to his office he intuitively decided to stroll through the park instead. There was a man sitting by a lake with a basket full of lotus flowers feeding the birds. 
This man was beaming, he looked like he had everything and needed nothing. He was at peace. 
The businessman approached the man and as he edged closer he saw etched onto his robes a phrase, “Go inwards to give outwards. Sage Gautam.”
Intrigued by the etchings, the businessman asked him a rather curious question… 

 

What does “Go inwards to give outwards" mean?

The sage looked lovingly at the businessman and said, “Would you like to go on an adventure?”

Without hesitation, the businessman followed the sage who started walking into a labyrinth inside the park. With eager anticipation, his heart vibrated and tingled with excitement. 

Oddly enough, the labyrinth represented the shape of a heart with four chambers, valves and tubular-shaped exits. 

The businessman was in complete awe of the beauty, placing him in a trance. There were thousands of lotus flowers arranged in magical geometric shapes - pyramids, spheres and helices. 

The lotus flowers were spelling out a quote….

“Your life is not about you, it’s about the lives you touch.”

The businessman felt an enormous surge of energy. Tears flowed out of him and in that moment of insight, he saw flashing images of all the suffering he had been inflicting upon himself and others. 

He now felt connected, aligned and had a sense of eternity. 

He understood who he really was, knew his meaningful mission and was committed to going inwards to giving outwards. 

The only way forwards was compassion. He had seen so deeply within himself, he saw himself in others and the world around him. 

He understood that compassion not only reduces suffering but creates mastery. 

The happiness and peace he now felt was not the end, it was just the beginning…
